Low seat chair

BAPE® X TENDO ABC CAMO TEIZA-ISU

¥ 110,000 (tax included)

This masterpiece was designed by members of the Junzo Sakakura Architecture Institute for a space designed by Junzo Sakakura, one of the leading architects in the world of 20th century Japanese architecture.
"I want a chair that blends in with the lifestyle of a Japanese-style room and allows me to relax comfortably."
We fulfilled that request.
A design that embodies Japanese modernity that blends into Japanese and Western lifestyles.
As the name "low seat chair" suggests, the seat is 29cm low, allowing you to sit cross-legged or with your legs thrown out. The back of the seat is slightly sloped, and the thick cushion supports your body, allowing you to sit without putting strain on your lower back.
The legs are shaped like sleds to prevent damage to tatami mats and carpets. It goes well with Japanese-style rooms as well as rooms with wooden floors.

Rocking chair

BAPE® X TENDO ABC CAMO ROCKING CHAIR

¥ 132,000 (tax included)

It was designed by Mitsumasa Sugazawa, who was Tendo Mokko's in-house designer. Since joining the company, he has worked with many designers to support the realization of these ideas from a manufacturer's standpoint, and his molded plywood know-how is on full display in this rocking chair.
The side frame is seamless except for the armrests, and is molded as a single piece, achieving high design quality and robustness. In addition, the armrest curve uses "unequal thickness molding" technology to locally change the thickness, with consideration given to both aesthetic beauty and comfort.
This rocking chair is popular among architects and designers, and is also known to have been used by sculptor Isamu Noguchi in his studio. Its shape follows the contours of the body and the divided seat cushion relieves tension throughout the body.
The natural swaying motion provides a soothing experience.

Spoke Chair

BAPE® X TENDO ABC CAMO SPOKE CHAIR

¥ 187,000 (tax included)

This chair was designed when Katsuhei Toyoguchi was at the peak of his career as a designer. It is a relaxing chair that combines tradition with modernity and is designed to suit Japanese lifestyles, as if it were a representation of Japanese life.
The low seating surface and spoke backrest create an open space. The large oval seat gives you a feeling of security as if you were sitting on a tatami mat. You can sit comfortably cross-legged or with your legs thrown out, and there are no restrictions on your posture.
The back side of the seat is made using "endless molding". This is a technique unique to Tendo Mokko that allows seamless oval shapes to be formed using skilled techniques.

About Tendo woodwork

A furniture manufacturer founded in 1940, the company began researching molded plywood furniture in 1947. It is known for being one of the first companies in Japan to put into practical use the "molded plywood" technique, in which thin boards are layered and placed in a mold to create free-form shapes. The company has collaborated with architects and designers from Japan and abroad from an early stage, and has produced many masterpieces of highly designed furniture. One of its signature works is Sori Yanagi's Butterfly Stool (1956), which is part of the permanent collections of museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Louvre.
Due to the durability and reliability that the company's technical capabilities offer, it has been supplied to numerous government agencies and public facilities, and is also highly popular with architects and design firms.
In addition, by applying the knowledge and technology cultivated in furniture manufacturing, the company has expanded into the automobile interior parts business, producing interior panels and wooden steering wheels made of natural wood, which have been adopted in luxury cars from automobile manufacturers such as Honda, Toyota, and Nissan.
In recent years, the company has announced its proprietary Roll Press Wood (soft coniferous wood compression and molding technology) with the aim of expanding the use of soft coniferous woods such as cedar and cypress. This has made it possible to apply softwoods, which were previously considered unsuitable for furniture, to molded plywood. In 2015, the company received the Prime Minister's Award at the 6th Monodzukuri Nippon Grand Awards (Product/Technology Development Division) for its technological capabilities and innovation.
